LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, often referred to as LA Plaza, is a vibrant Mexican-American museum and cultural center located at 501 North Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Situated near the historic Olvera Street, the site where Los Angeles was founded in 1781, LA Plaza offers visitors an immersive experience into the rich history and cultural contributions of Mexicans, Mexican Americans, and the broader Latinx community in Southern California.

Facilities and Exhibitions:
Historical Significance and Architecture: The institution is housed in two meticulously restored 19th-century structures: the Vickrey-Brunswig Building and the Plaza House. The Vickrey-Brunswig Building, completed in 1888, is a five-story edifice designed by architect R.B. Young, showcasing a blend of Italianate and Victorian architectural styles. Adjacent to it, the Plaza House, built in 1883, stands as one of the few remaining commercial buildings from that era in Los Angeles. The site is surrounded by 30,000 square feet of public gardens.
LA Cocina de Gloria Molina: This teaching kitchen and event space offers culturally rooted cooking classes, demonstrations, and tastings, highlighting the culinary traditions of Mexican and Mexican-American cuisine.
Permanent Exhibitions: "L.A. Starts Here!" and "Calle Principal: Mi México en Los Ángeles" are among the core exhibitions that engage visitors in an ongoing dialogue about the past, present, and future of Los Angeles.

Mission and Programs:
As a Smithsonian-affiliated institution, LA Plaza is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing the stories, achievements, and experiences of the Latinx community. The center hosts a variety of public programs, including music and dance performances, film screenings, workshops, and panel discussions, amplifying diverse voices and identities within the community.
